It seems convertible laptops have become a new trend on the market. They are essentially a tablet and laptop in one - making them more powerful that your average tablet and thinner and more portable than a laptop.

The problem with quite a lot of tablets on the market is that they lack quite a few features - take the iPad, for example - the OS is pretty limited and you have to rely on apps to do everything. It also doesn't have any memory card slots or USB ports. That's where the convertible laptops come in - most run Windows 8 (and you can change the OS) and the basic features are quite advanced. You have several ports for different functions along the sides as well as having all the multi-touch features of a regular tablet device.

All in all, we can see the appeal of these devices and we're guessing they'll be a huge hit in 2013. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Sony's latest Vaio range have motion sensors which allow you to control your laptop with the swipe of your hand. The new feature is called "Gesture Control" and it works by detecting motion through the built-in webcam.

Just hold your hand up in front of the webcam and...
  • swipe left or right to flick through photos or web pages
  • pull your hand down to pause music or slideshows
  • "rotate" your hand to adjust the sound volume
These Gesture Control movements are currently only supported by Windows® Media Player, Internet Explorer® 9, PowerPoint® and PowerDVD.

As well as these new features, Sony also promise that the E Series laptops come with HD webcams for clearer and crisper video quality - pictures will appear sharper and more detailed and the colours will remain rich and vibrant even in poor light.
